The first-ever Bhutan National Baseball Team Camp took place from Jan. 18-20 at the Motithang Higher Secondary School sports ground. A total of 25 players (ages 16-25) are competing to be named to the 20-man roster that will compete in the MyBhutan Men's Baseball League that will debut in September.
The national team is also hopeful of scheduling exhibition games against India, Nepal, and Bangladesh in late 2023 or early 2024.
"The guys are making progress in their understanding of the game," said Bhutan National Team Head Coach Marvin Moore. "I am excited to see how much this group can develop over the next seven months."
The American coach stressed that competing in the new adult league this fall will help the national team prepare to become a squad capable of achieving success on the international stage.
"We have a ton of hard work ahead of us this year, but we have some guys with some raw talent that just needs to be developed," added Moore. "It's a process and I expect the guys we have to work hard to improve their skills and develop into a solid team that will not get embarrassed against international competition."
