Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association Hosts Inspiring Summer Camp for Over 90 Youth Participants

Thimphu, Bhutan – July 7, 2025

The Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) successfully wrapped up its annual Summer Camp on July 7, 2025, marking a week of skill-building, teamwork, and fun for more than 90 young participants from across the country. Held from July 1st to 7th at Royal Bodyguard Ground, Dechencholing, the camp attracted 48 boys and 42 girls, all eager to learn the fundamentals of baseball, softball, and the fast-growing sport Baseball5.

The camp was designed to introduce and enhance basic technical skills while fostering a love for the game in a supportive and inclusive environment. Throughout the week, participants took part in hands-on drills, team-building activities, and friendly games, all under the guidance of BBSA coaches and volunteers.

Focusing on core aspects such as throwing, catching, batting, base running, and game rules, the camp provided age-appropriate training that catered to both beginners and returning players. With structured sessions, young athletes were able to steadily improve their technical proficiency while building confidence on the field.

“This camp is not just about learning how to play; it’s about helping kids believe in themselves and each other,” said one of the BBSA coaches. “We’ve seen incredible growth, not just in their skills, but also in their teamwork and sportsmanship.”

A key highlight of the camp was the emphasis on teamwork and inclusivity, with boys and girls training side by side, learning to collaborate and support one another. The inclusion of Baseball5, a more accessible and faster-paced version of baseball, also allowed for greater participation and engagement, especially in limited-space environments.

For many of the kids, this was their first experience in an organized sports setting, and BBSA made it a point to ensure that everyone felt welcomed, supported, and valued—regardless of skill level or experience.

The Summer Camp is part of BBSA’s broader mission to grow the game of baseball and softball in Bhutan and to provide meaningful youth development opportunities through sport. By introducing children to the basics in a fun and structured way, BBSA aims to create a pipeline of young athletes who can go on to compete at national and international levels.

“Our goal is to plant the seeds of passion and discipline,” said a BBSA representative. “If even a few of these children go home inspired to keep playing, then we’ve done our job.”
