U12 School Softball League Season 3: Rinchen Kuenphen PS Crowned Champions

The Bhutan Baseball & Softball Association (BBSA) proudly hosted the U12 School Softball League – Season 3, a season defined by new beginnings, fierce competition, and a historic first-time champion. With dedicated training from BBSA coaches and guidance from U18 National Softball players, the young athletes demonstrated tremendous growth and sportsmanship.

Rising Participation

A total of 4 softball teams participated in Season 3, with over 70 young girls taking the field. An inspiring 90% of the participants were new to the game, marking a significant step forward for girls' sports in Bhutan.

The Final: A Battle of Newcomers

The softball final was a historic encounter between two teams that first joined the league in 2025. Rinchen Kuenphen PS secured their maiden U12 Softball championship title, defeating Jigme Losel PS in a well-fought final that highlighted the rapid progress of both schools in just their second year of competition.

Pathway to Excellence

Following the league, BBSA selected 9 talented girls from the U12 softball pool. These young athletes will now receive advanced training alongside previously selected academy groups, creating a clear pathway from school leagues to the BBSA Softball Academy.

Venue and Support

The league was hosted at Rinchen Kuenphen Primary School, which has been a dedicated venue partner for U12 leagues since 2024. The finals were graced by the Principal of Rinchen Kuenphen PS, the Vice President of BBSA, and School Sports Instructors from all participating schools.

Adding to the developmental model, U18 Softball players stepped into key roles as coaches and officials for the league, gaining invaluable experience that will serve them in their own sporting careers.

Season 2- 2025

The much-awaited Season 2 of the U12 School Softball League started in style at Rinchen Kuenphen Primary School with an incredible display of energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship! A total of 5 softball school teams and nearly 75 young athletes took the field, making it a day to remember.

In a thrilling showdown, DHSS U12 Softball team emerged as the champions of Season 2, securing back-to-back titles in style against Jigme Namgyel LSS U12 Softball team.

BBSA 12U School Softball League
Season 1- 2024

The 12U Softball Division will begin in 2024 with a 10-game schedule. The mission of the youth league is to introduce the game of softball to girls (ages 11-12) in a fun and safe environment.

The youth division aims to provide little league players an introduction to the basic fundamentals of softball - hitting, pitching, throwing, fielding, team defense, and baserunning.

The 12U league will consist of teams competing in weekend tournaments that feature three teams playing two games apiece. All games will have a 90-minute time limit and all players are guaranteed to play a minimum of two innings per game.

Youth league teams will also play exhibition games at the annual Bhutan Baseball Day celebration and 18U All-Star Game festivities.
