Bhutan Amatuer Baseball League
Bhutan Baseball & Softball Association (BBSA) is the national governing body of baseball and softball in Bhutan and founded by Karma Dorji and long-standing resident, Matthew DeSantis (American). BBSA oversees the development of “diamond sports” across the country, organizing senior and youth baseball camps, sessions, leagues and national competitions.
We are an officially affiliated sports association with the Bhutan Olympic Committee and also a country member with the World Baseball & Softball Confederation and the Baseball Federation of Asia.
The BABL currently consists of one division, the Thimphu Amaetur Baseball Division (TABD), with 5 schools, 90 student athletes, 15 officials and volunteers. Games will be hosted at Changangkha Middle Secondary School and Dechencholing Higher Secondary School, abiding by COVID protocol.
The league consists of a regular season and playoffs, totaling 3 months and all the games are played during weekends with an official game being 7 innings in length.
The league’s objective is to develop and prepare young players aged 15 and under for dzongkhag clubs and senior leagues whilst promoting the health and social benefits to playing baseball and softball in Bhutan.
In addition to our league sponsor, Nangyi Aum Restaurant, we would like to thank our team sponsors, Bhutanese friends from Australia, United States of America, RSEB, Bhutan Foundation and our crowdfunding sponsors.

Season 4 of Bhutan's U15 School Baseball & Softball League: Celebrating youth talent and growing the sport
May 17, 2025
The fourth season of the U15 School Baseball & Softball League in Bhutan recently concluded its exciting one-month run at the Dechencholing RBG Astro Turf. From May 17 to June 7, eight dedicated teams (four in baseball and four in softball) competed with impressive displays of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The league's ongoing success and the enthusiastic participation of young athletes from schools across Thimphu underscore the growing popularity of baseball and softball in the nation.
The Bhutan Baseball & Softball Association (BBSA), affiliated with the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), continues its mission to develop the sports at a grassroots level. This U15 league is a key component of BBSA's youth development program, nurturing emerging talent and providing a pathway for players to potentially represent Bhutan at the U18 national level. The league also serves as a talent identification platform for BBSA's U15 Academy.
This year's league was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Mr. Bob and Mr. Ben, whose commitment to uplifting youth sports in the community is greatly appreciated. Their support, along with the provision of the Dechencholing RBG Astro Turf by the Royal Bodyguard of Bhutan, highlights the collaborative effort in fostering a vibrant sports culture in the country. The league featured exciting matches. Dechencholing HSS won the baseball title against Jigme Namgyel LSS, Changzamtok Middle Secondary School secured their first softball title, defeating Lungtenzampa MSS. These results highlight the league's competitive spirit.
