Taba LSS Capture 15U BABL Championship
Taba Lower Secondary School captured the first ever 15U Bhutan Amateur Baseball League (BABL) Championship Friday night with a 14-11 victory against Dechencholing Higher Secondary School at Changlimithang Football Stadium in Thimphu.
The 15U BABL, which was sponsored by Nangyi Aum Restaurant, consisted of five schools and 90 student-athletes. The league was organized by the Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) - the governing body of baseball and softball in the country.
The five participating schools were Taba Lower Secondary School, Dechencholing Higher Secondary School, Changangkha Middle Secondary School, Thimphu Primary School, and Druk School.
The 15U BABL consisted of a regular season and playoffs, and games were played during weekends with an official game being seven innings. The league lasted nearly six months due to Covid-19 and lockdown.
The objective of the 15U BABL is to develop and prepare young players aged 15 and under for senior league competition while promoting the health and social benefits to playing baseball and softball in Bhutan. Promoting and increasing participation in baseball and softball is also a primary goal of the BBSA.
The BBSA will introduce an 18U Baseball League that will begin on Saturday, August 27, with seven participating teams.
