Bhutan: Baseball5 Coming to Thimphu Schools

The BBSA will introduce Baseball5 to Thimphu-area schools in 2023.

The Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) has announced that Baseball5 will be introduced to Thimphu-area schools in 2023. Baseball5, a five-on-five street version of the game of baseball, was introduced in Bhutan in 2021.

The participating schools that will be taught Baseball5 include Loselling MSS, Dechencholing HSS, Zillneon Namgelling LSS, Druk School and Thimphu Primary School.

"The most beneficial of introducing baseball5 to students is they would have one more option in the field of baseball. The students can play baseball5 anywhere and everywhere", explained Sanjeevan Rag Gurung, BBSA Technical Department Chief.

Baseball5 is a fast-paced team sport where individual skills and hand-eye coordination are highlighted, and has many of the same rules as baseball and softball.

The BBSA is the national governing body for baseball and softball in Bhutan, and is a member of the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the World Baseball Softball Confederation.
