BBSA Coaches Spotlight: Sanjeevan Raj Gurung

Sanjeevan Raj Gurung- BBSA Coach

Why did you choose to work with the Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association?

I chose to work for BBSA because I want to take this game in Bhutan to new heights, promote this game in all 20 districts, and be a productive team member. We have a team that has the same vision, trusts in each other, and is dedicated to working for BBSA to grow.

What life experiences helped shape your decision to coach youth?

My life experience, especially in terms of coaching, is the experience I gained as a coach for U19, U15, and also the National cricket women's team when I was working for Bhutan cricket. I was a coach from 2013-2019, and also represented the Bhutan cricket national team from 2006-2018. The experience as a coach and as a player helped me to share the experience and knowledge I gained with upcoming baseball, softball, and baseball5 players.

What do you find is the most challenging aspect of the game of baseball?

I am a firm believer as a coach that every day is a process of learning. The more challenges I face the more I will learn. Overall, the most challenging part would be understanding the rules of the game and developing and investing in coaches. I feel that if we can develop more coaches and officials, we will have more players playing for Bhutan.

What has been your most rewarding moment as a youth coach?

It has only been a year since Bhutan Baseball and Softball was formed so my most rewarding moment as a coach has been in a short period. With the help of my assistant coach, we prepared a team from TPS to play in the U15 Bhutan Amateur Baseball League. Of the five teams, we are currently in third place even though we are the youngest team to participate in the league.
