2023 Bhutan Baseball & Softball Winter Camp
The Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association 2023 Winter Camp started on Monday, January 2, with more than 40 boys and girls (ages 8-17) at the Motithang Higher Secondary School sports field. The camp will end on Saturday with a tournament and picnic.
“We are having a blast,” said BBSA International Coach Marvin Moore. “We have a lot of kids who have excellent potential to develop into some really good baseball and softball players.”
The American coach, who kept a low profile during the recently concluded 18U baseball league, has taken a totally different approach during the first few days of the camp.
“The 18U league was basically a beginner course for both the players and Bhutanese coaches,” said Moore. “The focus was just on the rules of the game and the basic fundamentals, and we wanted the kids to just have fun playing baseball.”
The native Texan has higher expectations for Bhutan baseball and softball leagues this year and recently introduced the young Bhutanese players to a national team-style training session.
“From rundowns to pickoff plays and first and third situations, the kids are now learning how to play the game. The BBSA will be very busy this winter with indoor training preparing our kids to become smart ballplayers with elite fundamentals.”
The BBSA will be conducting 8U, 10U, 12U, and 15U leagues for both baseball and softball in the spring, summer, and fall. Also, a new adult league - MyBhutan Men’s Baseball League - will debut in September.
The BBSA welcomes boys and girls (ages 6-16) to come and learn how to play baseball and softball - two of the fastest-growing sports in Bhutan. The new adult league is also seeking men (ages 17-40) who are interested in playing baseball this fall.
