Royal Bhutan Bodyguard Youth Win 18U Baseball Title

THIMPHU - Royal Bhutan Bodyguard Youth scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Dechencholing Higher Secondary School, 13-12, Sunday and capture the RICB 18U Bhutan Amateur Baseball League championship.

In the first game of a Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) doubleheader at the Motithang Higher Secondary School sports field, Thimphu Baseball Club cruised to a 9-4 victory over Taba Lower Secondary School in the consolation game to claim third place.

The top players in the 18U BABL also competed in an All-Star Game on Saturday, Oct. 15. Team Dorji plated 13 runs in the opening frame and coasted to a 27-1 win over Team DeSantis.

The league kicked off on Aug. 27 at the Loselling MSS sports field. The seven participating teams included Changgangkha Middle Secondary School, Dechencholing, Druk School, Loselling Middle Secondary School, Royal Bhutan Bodyguard Youth, Taba Lower Secondary School, and Thimphu Baseball Club.

Thimphu Baseball Club rolled to a lopsided 23-0 win against Taba Lower Secondary School in the season-opening game. The Red Pandas posted an unblemished record in the regular season but were upset in the first round of the playoffs by a much-improved Royal Bhutan Bodyguard Youth squad.

Dechencholing knocked off Druk School, 13-1, in their first game of the season and finished the regular season in second place with just a lone loss.

The RICB 18U Men's Baseball League was sponsored by the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Limited. The co-sponsors included Number 7 Olakha, First Floor Restaurant and Bar, Hutah Dairy, and Hayate.
