BBSA becomes a member of Bhutan Olympic Committee

After a two-year wait, the Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) has officially become a member of the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC). The announcement was made during the sixth BOC General Assembly held in Thimphu recently.

"This a great moment in the short history of baseball and softball in Bhutan," expressed Sanjeevan Raj Gurung, BBSA Secretary General. "Starting today, the BBSA begins a new journey that is focused on the future."

The BOC membership will enable the BBSA to actively contribute to the Olympic movement in the country and promote sports at both the grassroots and national team levels.

It started as a community association in 2013, and baseball and softball became a formal association in 2020. Since then, the number of registered players has increased from 200 to over 2,000 players.

"Our main focus will be to recruit youth players and develop leagues so boys and girls can learn and play baseball and softball," said Gurung. "Our goal is not just to teach baseball and softball to Bhutanese kids. We want to develop national team players who can succeed on the international stage."
