With a profound sense of duty and gratitude, the Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) was honored to participate in the third batch of the Gelephu Mindfulness City volunteer service, held from October 6th to October 10th. This historic initiative, led by the Bhutan Olympic Committee, brought together the national sports family in a collective act of service for the future of our nation.
The week was a powerful demonstration of unity, as approximately eight national sports federations and associations stood side-by-side, contributing their energy and effort to this groundbreaking project. To work alongside our fellow sportsmen and women, all united under the guidance of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, was a deeply moving experience that truly embodied the spirit of Yoezer.
A Guiding Presence: Leadership and Commitment
Throughout the entire week, our group was profoundly inspired by the unwavering dedication of our senior member, Dasho Thinley Wangchuk Dorji, President of Bhutan Cricket. Leading by example, Dasho provided not just guidance but also immense moral strength to all volunteers. His presence was a constant reminder of the significance of our mission. Reflecting on the experience, Dasho shared:
Reflecting on the experience, Dasho shared:
"His Majesty's vision for Gelephu Mindfulness City is not merely a project, but a sacred calling to which I dedicate my unwavering commitment. It has been my deepest privilege to serve this transformative vision, and I humbly urge every Bhutanese citizen to join in this collective endeavor to build a lasting legacy for our future generations."
Our efforts were concentrated on a monumental task:
The clearing of the largest land parcel, a vast 176-acre site, to prepare the ground for the city's future. As part of Team 15, we worked in unison with over 3,000 fellow volunteers, a sea of dedicated citizens all moving toward a common goal. The work of clearing bushes and undergrowth was more than a physical undertaking; each swing of the tool was carried out with the understanding that we were not just clearing land, but actively participating in the foundational stages of a vision far greater than ourselves.
A Profound Honor: BBSA Humbles in an Audience with His Majesty The King and Her Royal Highness Ashi Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck
This vision is the profound and forward-looking dream of His Majesty The King for a sustainable, prosperous, and purpose-driven Bhutan. The Gelephu Mindfulness City is a cornerstone of this vision, a future where economic growth walks hand-in-hand with our cherished principles of Gross National Happiness. To contribute, even in a small way, to this legacy for future generations was both a privilege and a sacred responsibility for every BBSA volunteer.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Bhutan Olympic Committee for its exemplary leadership in mobilizing the sports community for this national cause. The BBSA returns from this experience reinvigorated in our own mission, inspired by the collective spirit of service and more committed than ever to serving our nation and people in all capacities.
