18U All-Star Game: Team Dorji Routs Team DeSantis
THIMPHU - Under the beautiful, blue skies of Thimphu, the first annual 18U RICB League All-Star Game was a rousing success for the Bhutan Baseball & Softball Association, and baseball and softball players.
The fun-filled event included a pair of baseball skills contests, a softball exhibition game, and the 18U RICB League All-Star Game.
SKILLS CONTEST
The baseball skills contests were divided into two categories, the best throw, and the best hitter. A total of 35 kids (ages 18 & under) participated in the event. Kinlay Phuntsho of Loseling Middle Secondary School took top honors in the throwing contest while Thimphu Baseball Club's Rinzin Nima won the Best Hitter competition.
SOFTBALL EXHIBITION
24 15U softball girls competed in the softball exhibition game. The four-inning matchup began with Thimphu North racing out to a 10-0 lead after three innings of action. However, Thimphu South erupted for nine runs in the final frame but came up one run short in a 10-9 setback.
The main objective of the BBSA is to develop girls’ fastpitch softball in Bhutan in 2023.
ALL-STAR GAME
Team Dorji used a 13-run opening frame to rout Team DeSantis, 27-1, in the first annual 18U RICB League All-Star Game at the Motithang Higher Secondary School sports field.
Sangay Wangchuk drilled a two-run homer to nab the Best Hitter Award, and Thinlay Jamtsho tossed four dominant innings to earn the Best Pitcher Award. Tendin Gyaltshen made a superb catch in right field to claim the Best Catch Award.
BBSA coaches Choki Tenzin and Jigdrel Wangchuk called the shots for the winning squad.
