From the Diamond to Duty: Thinley Choden Choda Story
Before we celebrate Thinley's diamond exploits on the field, it is essential to recognize a significant national achievement she has recently completed: the fourth batch of Gyalsung, Bhutan’s National Service.
The institution of Gyalsung is a profound vision of His Majesty The King, who announced its launch during the Royal Address to the nation on the 112th National Day, 17 December 2019. His Majesty envisioned Gyalsung as a powerful means to empower all Bhutanese youth, enabling them to participate directly in the ongoing process of nation-building. This initiative is designed to further enhance the security, peace, unity, harmony, and sovereignty of our nation.
For a full year, at academies like the one in Pematnang, young citizens like Thinley are immersed in a holistic curriculum that turns this vision into reality. It rigorously trains Gyalsups (trainees) in physical fitness, weapon handling, military drills, and academic sessions on national security and civic values. To excel in this demanding environment requires immense discipline, dedication, and a sharp intellect.
We are not just proud of a talented softball player, we are inspired by a young woman who has wholeheartedly answered His Majesty’s call to service. She has demonstrated that the same passion and discipline she brings to the game, she also brings to serving her nation. Her success in Gyalsung is a powerful reflection of her character, proving that the heart of a champion beats both on the field and in the unwavering service to the Tsa-Wa-Sum (King, Country, and People).
Thinley Choden Choda didn't just complete this program; she soared. Her exceptional all round performance was recognized with the Gyalsung Medal and Certificate of Merit as the Best Gyalsup Female Gold Medalist. This prestigious gold medal is a testament to her outstanding prowess across all ten core components from physical training and weapon drills to written examinations.
