2023 BBSA District Tour: Phobjikha

The Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) staff traveled to Phobjikha from June 9-12 for a two-day baseball and softball camp for 62 Bayta Primary School students.

The fun-filled camp introduced participants to the basic baseball and softball fundamentals of throwing, fielding and hitting. The students (ages 10-14) also enjoyed several fun games emphasizing teamwork.

"All of the coaches were impressed by the athletic potential of numerous boys and girls at the camp," noted BBSA baseball coach Jigdrel Wangchuk. "These kids have had very little baseball and softball training, but some have the talent to develop into national team players."

The BBSA staff also embarked on a tour of the area, including a visit to the ancient Gangteng Monastery and the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre.

"The trip to the monastery was extraordinary and inspiring," said BBSA softball coach Tshering Zangmo. "I also enjoyed visiting the black-necked cranes and seeing up close to these amazing birds."

The BBSA will also provide a delegation of 10-15 students from Bayta Primary School an all-expenses paid trip to attend this year's Baseball and Softball Summer Camp in July. This journey will be the first trip to Thimphu for many of these students.
